Olaya Álvarez-Tuñón

Postdoctoral Researcher · ITU Copenhagen & EIVA A/S · Robotics, Computer Vision & Deep Learning

I’m Olaya Álvarez-Tuñón, a Postdoctoral Researcher with a passion for Robotics, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning. I completed my Ph.D. in Robotics and Computer Vision at Aarhus University, and I’m currently working at EIVA A/S while collaborating with the Software Quality Research (SQUARE) group at the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU).

My research focuses on Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Deep Learning, and Computer Vision — with an emphasis on visual-based navigation for underwater and safety-critical applications.

As a roboticist, I have hands-on experience across hardware and software: designing and maintaining robotic systems, and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms on robots using ROS (1 and 2) and libraries such as behavior trees. I also care deeply about science dissemination and clearly documented software — see my blog and publications.
